Monteriggioni is a sort of large, towered castle, that can be seem from afar with its evocative skyline. It rises on the top of a hill just a few miles from the city of Siena. It is a fascinating, evocative sight, as it dominates the countryside around with its imposing appearance.
Within the walls, you’ll find both taverns and high-class restaurants, but above all a quiet, relaxing environment, with its old buildings and alleys, all very far from the frenzy of modern life. You can sit in the piazzetta and taste an ice cream or a fine glass of Chianti. You can walk around the perfectly preserved circle of the walls, or reach on foot, or with a bike, the wonderful and peaceful countryside. There are breath-taking views, small castles, and old fine little churches.
