Torre del Lago

lago massaciuccoli particolare

Sunny beaches, a large and fresh pine forest, a placid lake: a natural balance that makes Torre del Lago Puccini an ideal place for both excursions and longer holidays.
Set between the Massaciucoli Lake and the Tyrrhenian sea, between the Alpi Apuane and the Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciucoli Park, it is an ideal starting point for visits to the main historical cities in Tuscany, all within easy reach, or for long walks and excursions through the protected pine forest and on the mountains nearby.
On the lakeside, near Puccini’s villa, now turned into a museum dedicated to the great musician, every year in summer a musical opera festival is held, since 1930. All performances are open-air, and truly unforgettable due to the unique charm of the surroundings. The small region around is the Versilia, and Torre del Lago is its most naturalistically attractive part. But it is also a region that caters both to high-class tourism and to young people, with many clubs and bars along its beautiful promenades.
The Torre del Lago downtown and coastline, however, are a popular touristic resort, because of the natural beauty of the place, fair prices, and a vocation for “friendly” tourism. The beach has several bathing establishments, but it is still to a large extent a free beach, one of the last in Italy, and famous for that, as it keeps its original appearance. It’s the “spiaggia della Lecciona” (from holm-oaks). It is part of the national park, and is completely free. It attracts many tourists, however, both for its unique beauty and the famous dunes green with vegetation and flowers.
