Meeting at your hotel or home and leaving to Carrara. Visit to the old historical centre of Carrara, a hidden, romantic city with its old anarchist traditions, many artisan workshops and the beautiful, all-marble Duomo di S. Andrea. Lunch on your own.
In the afternoon, visit to the Nicoli Marble Atelier, a large workshop catering both to the great names of international sculpture and the small local sculptors. We’ll enjoy a unique chance to see how the craft of an artist can work a simple block of marble with wonderful results.
Dinner in a typical tavern and checking to a local B&B (breakfast included).
Meeting and leaving to the very small “borgo” of Colonnata, that lies at the feet of the quarries and offers many culinary specialties. In particular, it is home to the famous Colonnata lard, a tasty bacon fat seasoned in marble basins, of very ancient origins. Lunch on your own, to savour all these special treats.
In the afternoon, guided visit to the quarries, with their breathtaking panorama of the Alpi Apuane.
Return, dinner in a typical tavern, and checking to a B&B.
We’ll meet and soon enter the borders of Liguria, visiting first the elegant town of Sarzana, dominated by the tall Firmafede Fortress. The fortress was built by Lorenzo il Magnifico on the ruins of an ancient castle. One can also admire the imposing Pieve di San Andrea, the beautiful Romanic-gothic Cathedral, and the Palazzo Comunale in Renaissance style. Lunch on your own.
In the afternoon, visit with a short journey to the Fosdinovo Castle, a splendid castle built by the Malaspina Family, and, according to many, haunted by a ghost.
Return, dinner in a typical tavern, and checking to a B&B (breakfast included).
Before leaving Liguria, we’ll visit some one its most charming “borghi”. First the small town of Lerici with its fortress, the little houses painted in various colours, and its blue sea. There will be plenty of free time to enjoy the magical atmosphere of this unique place, and savour its typical Ligurian cuisine.
Return according to your wishes.
