Day 1
Meeting at your hotel or lodging and departure to Lucca. Visit of the elegant, small Tuscan town with its delightful squares within the ancient walls. Lunch on your own.
In the afternoon, we leave to Castelnuovo Garfagnana, and during the journey we’ll stop to admire the legendary Ponte del Diavolo (Devil’s Bridge) of Borgo a Mozzano. Once arrived to the small town of Castelnuovo, we’ll have free time, then dine at a typical tavern, and check into a B&B (breakfast included).
Day 2
Meeting and departure to the Grotte del Vento, the Wind’d Caves, and guided visit to the caves themselves: we’ll walk along the specially provided footbridges, that enable one to admire at close range the marvels of a part of nature that is usually hidden to one’s eyes: stalactites, stalagmites, columns, alabaster drapings, subterranean streams and so on…
Lunch in a typical tavern and visit to the solitary Eremo (Monastery) di Calomini: a holy place with a deep mystical flavour all of its own, set deep on a rocky, vertical face of the mountain.
Then return, dinner on your own, and checking into a B&B.
Day 3
Meeting and leaving to reach the small, enchanting lake set among the Apennines called Isola Bella. The atmosphere of the place is ancient and fabulous, and it is a great experience to wander through the steep alleys of the small Tuscan village.
Late in the afternoon, return, dinner in a typical tavern, and back to a B&B.
Day 4
Meeting, then leaving for a visit to the Fortress of the Verrucole, one of the most splendid examples of medieval castle in Tuscany, and in Italy. It is also an example of a perfectly successful conservative restoration. Already from a distance, its walls, with perfectly intact crenelles, seem to force passers-by to admire its power and beauty. Just a few hundred meters from the small town (you have to leave your car behind) we’ll reach the castle, and have an idea of what is waiting for us on the top: a breathtaking embracing the whole surrounding area.
Lunch on your own and return according to your preferences.
