Day 1
Meeting at your hotel and transfer to Volterra. Visit of the city with your guide, looking for the many testimonies of Etruscan and Roman civilizations, the Roman Theatre of Vallebuona, the acropolis, the necropolis, the medieval historical centre with its imposing surrounding walls, Piazza dei Priori, and the view on the impressive “Balze” (Crags) landscape around. We’ll visit the many workshops, in which alabaster is shaped in the old artisan ways. Lunch of your own choice, and free time to visit the Museums and the Art Gallery.
Late in the afternoon, meeting and transfer to Bolgheri.
Dinner in a typical tavern and checking into a B&B (breakfast included).
Day 2
You will be free for the whole morning so you can quietly visit the peaceful, splendid old “borgo” and call, if you like, on some of the many old taverns to taste typical products. . In the afternoon, guided tour to one of the cellars where one of the most important world-class Italian wines is produced, with final tasting.
In the afternoon, transfer to Populonia
Dinner in a farm holiday and then checking into a B&B (breakfast included).
Day 3
Meeting with your guide and short visit to the enchanting, small “borgo” of Populonia, with its quiet life style, its narrow cobbled alleys, and its Castle. You’ll be free for lunch, then we’ll move to the archaeological park, an area going down to the sea, toward the Baratti Gulf. We’ll discover the Etruscan necropolis of San Cerbone and the Hellenistic necropolis called the Buche delle Fate (Fairies).
In Summer our day will end with a bath at twilight in one of the more beautiful and picturesque beaches in Tuscany.
Dinner in a tavern and return to the B&B.
Day 4
Meeting with the guide and transfer to Massa Marittima.
The morning will be wholly dedicated to visiting the small town, and to admire the beautiful main square, in which one finds all the fundamental buildings in urban life during the Age of Italian Municipalities: the Cathedral, the Governor’s House (palazzo del Podestà), the Market’s Loggia, and the Palazzo Comunale. We’ll walk through the old, steep alleys of the historical centre, and reach the Upper Town, dominated by the impressive Fortress with its Clock’s Tower. The sight reaches down to the sea. You will have free time for lunch and further discoveries.
We’ll meet again in the afternoon to go back to your hotels according to your preferences.
