After the meeting, you’ll bike through the so-called “wine road” of the Colline Pisane, which meanders through the hills of the valley of the Era river and the lower part of the Arno Valley, crossing a territory with very ancient traditions. The natural environment is strikingly untouched and diverse here: from its beautiful colors and picturesque corners among trees, to the places where wine and oil are still cultivated and produced in a traditional way, you’ll be able to see a variety of landscapes. There are the ample panoramas from the higher hills around Peccioli, the vineyards and olive groves among vast cornfields between Lajatico and Terricciola, the lower, rolling hills waning into the Pisa plain around the enchanting “borghi” of Crespina and Fauglia, peaches and cherry trees in blossom around the little town of Lari.
After reaching Terricciola, you’ll be welcome in the farm of the Azienda Agricola Castevecchio, a recent but already well-established brand in grape growing. After a visit to the cellars, free wine-tasting and light lunch will follow.
You’ll then go back to your hotels late in the afternoon.
Route: about 25 kms (20 miles), lasting about 3.5/4 hrs.
Difficulty: medium
Terrain: mostly asphalt, with a pathway leading to the grape-growing farm.
